Rally Inspired Events Began with a Spirit of Adventure

Desert rally racing has its roots in the rugged long-distance off-road events that emerged throughout the 20th century where durability was a must to tackle the gnarly elements they emerged upon. Early competitions challenged drivers to cross vast stretches of deserts through high-speed and technical terrain with minimal support. Over time, specialized rally trucks evolved from modified production vehicles into purpose-built machines designed to withstand thousands of miles of punishment. Events over several continents helped establish these Rally races as one of the most demanding categories in motorsports, showcasing massive suspension travel, powerful engines, and the ability to conquer some of the harshest environments on Earth.

Today, off-road rally trucks continue to push the limits of off-road engineering. These vehicles must maintain high speeds across unpredictable terrain while carrying enough strength and reliability to survive multi-day events. Drivers and teams face constantly changing conditions, from towering dunes and rocky mountain passes to dry lake beds and technical desert trails. Success often comes down to a balance of performance, strategy, navigation, and mechanical durability. While many classes exist, the truck class has earned a reputation for producing some of the most spectacular racing moments, defying what only thought was possible for these behemoths.

The same look, feel and spirit that drives full-scale desert rally racing is now available in the new 1/18 DKR-4 Fortis Rally Truck from Hobby Plus. While smaller in size, we’ve built it to tackle dirt, gravel, sand, and rough terrain in much the same way as their full-scale counterparts. Long-travel suspension, durable HD metal drivetrain, realistic rally features such as two full-size spares, HD metal driveshafts, axles and outdrives, all-terrain Rally inspired tires, gullwing doors for rear bed accessibility, tilt cab for easy electronics access, remote operated front recovery winch, and a remote operated 2-speed transmission with neutral allow hobbyists to experience the excitement of rallying across a variety of terrain on a smaller scale. Complete with a newly designed in runner brushless system from Hobbywing, the smiles per mile are at an all time high with the new DKR4 Forits.

Built for the Spirit of Rally Raid

Rally raid is one of the ultimate tests of off-road performance. Speed alone isn't enough. A successful rally raid vehicle must combine suspension performance, ground clearance, drivetrain durability, stability, recovery capability, and the ability to adapt as the terrain changes beneath it.

The HobbyPlus DKR-4 FORTIS brings that same philosophy to RC.

Designed as a highly detailed 1/18-scale 4WD Rally Raid Truck, the DKR-4 blends authentic scale styling with a purpose-built off-road chassis engineered to be driven across dirt, gravel, sand, trails, and rough terrain.

This isn't simply a scale body sitting on a conventional RC platform. From its portal axles and long-travel suspension to its functional recovery winch, 2-speed transmission, twin spare tires, accessible rear equipment bay, and detailed rally bodywork, the FORTIS was developed to capture both the look and function of a full-size rally raid machine.

Purpose-Built Rally Raid Chassis

Underneath the detailed body is a capable 4WD chassis designed for mixed-terrain driving.

The DKR-4 features long-travel suspension paired with completely sealed front and rear solid portal axles. The portal design provides additional ground clearance for uneven terrain while retaining the solid-axle architecture expected from a rugged scale off-road truck.

Factory-installed front and rear anti-roll bars help control chassis movement and body roll, particularly when transitioning from slower technical terrain into faster rally-style driving.

The result is a platform designed to balance articulation, stability, ground clearance, and higher-speed control.

Detailed Key Features

 Performance & Drivetrain

How does it drive?

Heavy-Duty Metal Drivetrain

Heavy-Duty Metal Drivetrain

A capable rally raid truck needs a drivetrain built for more than shelf duty.

The DKR-4 incorporates heavy-duty metal components throughout critical areas of the drivetrain, including:

  • Metal ring gears
  • Metal pinion gears
  • Metal transmission gears
  • HD metal axles
  • HD metal outdrives
  • HD metal driveshafts

These components provide the durability needed for regular trail running and mixed-terrain driving while adding mechanical substance beneath the truck's scale exterior.

Remote-Operated 2-Speed Transmission

Remote-Operated 2-Speed Transmission

  • One of the defining features of the DKR-4 is its remote-operated 2-speed transmission with neutral.
  • Rather than limiting the truck to one fixed driving characteristic, the 2-speed gearbox expands its usable performance range.
  • Use the appropriate range when negotiating slower, more technical terrain, then shift when the trail opens up and additional wheel speed is desired.
  • The system helps give the FORTIS the versatility to transition between scale trail driving and faster rally-inspired running without sacrificing the mechanical character of the platform

Electronics, Lighting & Control

How are the truck's functions controlled?

Full LED Lighting System

Full LED Lighting System

The DKR-4 comes equipped with a complete LED lighting package from the factory.

The system includes the truck's primary scale lighting along with:

  • Roof-mounted lighting
  • Front lighting
  • Integrated scale lighting
  • Factory-installed rock lights

The rock lights add both visual realism and useful illumination around the chassis during low-light trail driving.
